Siri and Sons

The Siri family is a fourth generation farming family whose roots began in Italy, starting with the emigration of Antonio Siri. In the 1950's Antonio's son and current owner, Fred Siri established his own farm; joined by son Jim in the 1970's. The most recent family member to follow suit is Antonio's great-grandson Joe Siri along with wife and farming partner, Alma Siri.

The Siri family's 180-acre farm certified both USDA and Oregon Tilth organic is located near Damascus, Oregon surrounded by breathtaking views of Mount Hood and bordered by the Clackamas River. They supply Full Circle with different row crop items such as leaf lettuce, celery, bell peppers and bok choy. We had a chance to chat with Alma recently and she told us working with Full Circle is a good fit for them because we share a common goal of providing consumers with a wide range of quality, organic fruits and vegetables and a deeply rooted commitment to supporting healthy communities. In her own words:

"There is nothing better than knowing that what you're doing is benefiting so many people by supplying them with healthy, organic food. There is great satisfaction when you see that final package go down the road, sort of like a bird finally leaving its nest. You nurture and care for your crops and when it comes time for them to go, you feel a sense of pride and accomplishment."

What makes Siri and Sons such a compelling example of family farm history is the ongoing relationship between generations. According to Alma, "Every member of our family is involved . . . Jim is our guiding light; he's always around to make sure that Joe and I are making the right decisions. Molly (Jim's wife) is famous for her 4-course marathon luncheons; we all sit down once a week and make sure everyone knows what the game plan is that week."

Lunch and life on the farm also includes grandparents Fred and Rachel Siri, who still reside there and both taking active roles.. Again Alma says, "Grandpa is always helping out with small tasks, keeping things efficient and orderly and Grandma makes great home made food that nobody can resist, especially her chocolate chip cookies."
