Puna Organics

Puna Organics, on the island of Hawaii, grows certified organic gingers. "Biker Dude" and his wife Elvira also run a retreat center at their farm that they describe as a "refuge for meditation, exploration, the spiritual minded, good food and herb lovers, yogis, artists, teachers, farmers, bikers, family reunions, wedding or just a good place to relax and get away." In keeping with their environmentally-friendly farming practices, the retreat center is powered by a state-of-the-art solar system and has a 25,000 gallon rainwater catchment to provide fresh water.

Ginger is a long-season crop. It is tended and cared for in the fields for nine months before it is harvested. In addition to its unparalleled versatility in the kitchen, ginger is thought to have healing properties. It is commonly used as a digestive aid, and it can be helpful for car sickness, nausea, arthritis pain, seasickness, even morning sickness.
